Luscious Moments: Infinity Now
About the Artist:
When Kerry mentioned to a friend and co-worker one day (back in 1997) that she had always wanted to carve stone, that friend brought her in two hand sized pieces of alabaster the very next day... Just that quickly her love for the touch of stone was born. Many thanks to you John.
After a move to Santa Barbara, a paradise for stone carvers and others, Kerry began accumulating additional stone working skills.
She generally chooses abstract ideas that she is pondering to bring into contact with herself and the stone. With the practice of carving stone, and with a lot of help from family, friends, teachers such as Rebecca Davis, and a fabulous group of local sculptors, Kerry recently (September 2007) finished her Ph.D. in Depth Psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute with a focus on the relationship developed between sculptors and their media - through the lens of Martin Buber's philosophy of dialogue - the I-You word pair. It's called Extending Fingers Touching Soul: A Heuristic Study of Sculptors and the Liminal Nature of Being Touched by Touching.
Kerry continues to enjoy working with alabaster, but her most recent work and upcoming projects are with marble. She also enjoys writing and works as editor at CASA Magazine in Santa Barbara. www.CasaSB.com
She is a member of the Santa Barbara Sculptors Guild - which was formed nearly forty years ago in Santa Barbara. For the last three years she has served as their president or co-president. http://www.sbsculptors.org/
Kerry was born into a farming and church-going family in central Michigan. She graduated from Graceland University with a degree in Philosophy/Religion; from Union Theological Seminary with a Masters of Divinity; and Pacifica Graduate Institute with a Doctor of Philosophy in Depth Psychology.
