For me, the particular joy of sculpture is starting with raw material and letting the form emerge from the tactile experience of my interaction with the material. There is a moment when I see the direction of the piece and can start to refine and then complete it. This is perhaps why I prefer to work on an intimate scale with plastic material such as clay which can be fired or wax which can be directly cast into bronze.
I have been working as a sculptor since 1970. Most of my bronzes were cast from wax originals. Early ceramic sculpture is bisque fired with a patina applied. Most recently, I have been exploring high fired stained and glazed ceramic sculpture and casting from natural materials. Since 2006, I have been directly involved in the bronze casting process, studying under Ed Inks at Santa Barbara City College.
My work has been exhibited at a number of juried shows including the Santa Barbara Sculptors Guild shows at the Faulkner Gallery in 2006, 2007 and 2008 and at the 2007 Santa Barbara ARTWALK.
